-< PROPOSED AMENDMENTS. , : ; .A meeting, of auctioneers was held yesterday to take steps to secure" an amondmont of the.Auctioneers Act, on the lines of proposals which wero agreed to by local auctioneers last year, but which wore brought forward too late to be incorporated in legis- , lation last session. There wore present, Messrs. J. G. Herdmnn (Dalgety and Co., Ltd.), Leigh Hunt (Farmers' Distributing Company), Bannister (Murray, Roberts, and Company), F. Shalders (N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency. Company. Ltd.), and D. Brand (T. Kennedy Macdonald, Ltd.). Mr. Herdman was voted to the chair. ~ The -chairman statid that tho matter had been considered. by several.. meetings last year, and finally a deputation waited on the Hon. Dr. Findlay, who promised to do what he could to bring an amending Bill before .the.House.last session. There was no doubt .that;, the; Auctioneers Act was so antiquated : that'something should be done to amend it. Mr.; T.': Kennedy Macdonald, : who had presided :'at:the' previous meetings, was' now absent from the Dominion, and his absence would bo'felt- as a loss. . .;, Mr.".Leigh..Hunt explained the alterations \ which'.'it - was .desired to mako 'in \the ,Act. It/ , was' proposed" that, the. meaning of the ,fer'm ■"auctioneer"'should.bo extended to in- - clude.'company,'or firm', ; as well as person. ■ N6:l6caJ 'authority >. should be pennitted' to grant.a'Jicerisis to. any person who had .viously.-mado,. application to anothor local authority.'and been, refused.
