SUNDAY CONCERT.
As usual, the Sunday' concert given "by the Wellington Professional Orchestra was attended by, a very large-audience, which filled tho gallery and downstairs, portion of the hall 'and;overflowed into the seats behind.the or-, chestra. The programme of orchestral items included one or two very good numbers. / The concert opened with the full orchestral march, .''Coronation' , (Eilenberg), played with com.mendablo spirit and treatment; i Following upon that came a striking "Semiramide" Rossini), bizarre, full of colour, characteristically Oriontal. "Confidences" (Wesley) was somewhat colourless, rather long,-and rather dull: The splendid "Pilgrim Chorus," from the IWagnerianopera "Tannhauser," was faithfully played; this number is always welcome in a concert programmo,'and when gtvon full justice to. is an artistic treat. The programme concluded with an attractive' march piece, -'New Colonial" (Hall). The orchestra (which A?as conducted by Mr. F. J. Oakes) was assisted by Mr.: Jas. Cathcart (tenor), Mr. Korshaw (oboo), and Mrs. Hyde-Wood-ward (pianist). Mr. Catheart, who sang "A Dream of Paradise".(Gray), and Temple's "'0 Song Divine," was , disappointing. In his first number his accompanists, Mrs. HydeWoodward' (at the■ piano),- and Mr. Woodward (violin pfrbligato), were not in touch ( ■with him, there being a manifest disagiee!ment as to tempo, obviously the result of no provious practice in concert. Mr. Cathcart's woalmesses in' production go to place a fairly good quality of voice at a serious disadvanf tage. Mr. Kershaw contributed an oboe solo,""Chant d' Amour" (Taubert), giving a faithful-rendition of that charming composition. •'" . ' '.■■•. "■■. ; .'.','.• ; '
