PREPARATIONS FOR THE DISPLAY, i
The aim of tlio Industrial Association is to get' rid as.far as .possible of the imports-' tion : of manufactured goods of all .classes;' to' encourage local industry and make tho .Dominion not only 'a j>roducing but. also' a manufacturing country. . Of courso thoro aro certain classes! of goods ' which ' cannot . bo manufactured in-New Zealand,'but whpn tlio oxhibits of Industries Week aro reviewed many people will be astonished to see what a wide range of manufactures are not included ill this class. For instance,, there. will, be a show of cash, registers made in the Dominion. Another machine.is Mr.' I).'. • Robertson's patent for stamping letters, and othor manufactures includo hats, made at tho (National Hat Mills. Wellington, trusses,"etc. ■ A now, industry, that, lias been brought to light by tho Industries' Week is tho manufacture of brooms from tho iibro of nikau palm. brooms aro made in .' Auckland. One exhibit that should: attract a great deal of attention is of sculls and oars, made by Mr. 1 Harry T. Norton,' ■of Wellington. Tho exhibit will include new sculls] made for Amst and Webb, for the world's', sculling championship, tho sculls with which Webb beat Tresidder in the first world's championship match rowed in New Zealand, ana Uio sculls with which Wlielch recently beat Fogwoll at Akaroa. ' No fewer than twelvo shops will make exhibits of woollen goods turned out by tho Wellington Woollen, Co. At tho present t-imo no accurate estimate can be made of ' tho scalo or numbors o( oxhibits.. The-secretary of the Industrial Association,/ Mr. H. F. Allen, has been do> luged with requests for information, bills, etc., which certainly augurs well for tho success of tho undertaking. No troublo is being spared to make tho week a record one of its kind. Excursion fares havo been arranged for, so that country visitors as well as town residents will bo enabled to see and appreciate tho goods oi New Zealand manufacture. At the request of the Industrial Association, a number of the principal factories in tho city will bo', thrown open for inspection, in order that tho goods may bo ; seon in . the course of marnj. facturo as well as when finished! -: ' i
