SCENERY PRESERVATION SOCIETY. ' Tho Scenery Preservation and Treo Planting Society, being neglected and practically fundless, met laat evening, to' commit "tho happy dispatch." Owing to the'heglect into which the society has fallen, it oven had some difficulty in achieving:its own extinction in, a formal and seemly manner. . An advertisement that the annual mooting, would bo held "to receive the • annual report and balance-sheet, and to consider a resolution to terminate the work of tho society," brought only six members together, tho number for a logal quorum being ten. Tho attendance'.included only thrco.members of the committee, and after vain attempts to attract other. members, the : meeting' despaired of formally achieving its sad business, and tho representatives of the presß : were, inthat their presence would not be needed. After the reporters left, however, an attendance was secured sufficient for the holding of a committee meeting, and by the election of a new, one-day honorary member, the society was able to hold a formal annual meeting. Mr. W. L. Meek, president, was in the chair. ■. ■' * Tho annual report and balance-sheet wero adopted.; Tho report has been already published. Tho balance-sheet showed a. surplus in hand of £27. The principal. items of receipts wero subscriptions and donations £24, and subsidy from the City .Council £50. The cliiof item of expendit iro was £43 for labour. Mr. G. A. Hurley moved that the society disband owing to want of financial support. -The mover and other speakers expressed their regret that'this course should be considered necessary, but urged the impossibility of doing useful work m now of the limited interest and support which tho society enjoyed. The motion was seconded and adopted. Mr. Pearson suggested that the New Zealand Nativos' Association might bo willing to take up the work. It was dccided to write to that association and ask if it could see its way to add tree-planting and afforestation to its present jjlutfom, '
