For a long time i past the question of Una proposed acquisition, of tho Gas Company's property by the, city has been before the public, and citizens will bo interested to learn- tJiat, in all probability, tho matter trill enter into the deliberations ;of tho City Council at ail early 'date. • Tho company Ims erected a gasomctor outside the city for storage purposes,. and, naturally, it desires' to ruli connecting mains to its works" in the city, but tho Act of Parliament under which tlio company Works oiily permits operations in tho city,,aiid in order to carry these, mains through tho Town Bolt into , the old Melroso' borough -.to tho new works, the company reijuirfcs 'tlio permission of the OityCouueil. . 1 The company lias, as tho public is aware, made a move in this direction, and has now approached tlio Gas - OomiiiittOo of the City Council for tho litrcossaiy permission.
