CITY TRAMWAYS.
-. A OmOULAS LOOP. . Tho statements made by Mr.'-John Eneeshaw, Traffic Suporintondent of tho Now South .Walos Government tramways, to _ a Dominion representative, and ; which woro published on. Saturday," were brought'- under the notice' , of. -'Mr. Stuart Eiohardson (City Electrical Engineer), who, was asked for his views on tho points or 'local interest. .'.. , : 1 As to th'e circular loop arrangement proposed at. tho Government Station terminus, Mr. Richardson, Baid it was perfectly - true that'tho circular arraagomont was very much better than the, shuntang system at present in'.uso, and it-would not be long before the •limit of utility of tho latter would be reached .as it caused delay. The present system was suitable' where a small number of cars were v concerned,. but as ■ the; number increased the necessity for tho' loop became more pressing. The difficulty in tho way of its establishment, howover, was tho fact that tho Government Station was to bo shifted, and until'that ovontuated it was impossible te take any action becauso the present terminus arrangements might be upset altogether.. ." The renewals referred toby Mr. Kneeshaw would be rails, car equipments, etc. If the depredation fund set nsido'aftor the present year was applied to this purpose it would enable the tloparfcment to carry out the renewals 'that would bo required. ■ At present a good sum was being spent on roparrs and - maintenance, and the system was being, kept in very fair ordor, and consequently the time when -tho dopreciation moneys would bo required bad boon steadily kept back. : It might-be three or four years before any sum would be required from the depreciation fund' for this purpose. . In reference to tho remarks concerning doublo-deckers, Mr. Richardson said that it was impossfblo for: the single-deck oars to carry a large numbor of passengers, mi consequently the others had to bo called into requisition. Tho single-deck cars were preferred, but for 1 rush traffic those with more wore imperative.
