FIRE ON THE RAKAIA.

Just as the Zealand Shipping Com-' pany's steamer Eakaia was unmooring, preparatory to sailing for London, via' Monte Video, Tcneriffo, and Gibraltar, smoko was observed coming through tho flooring of the, chief engineer's,room... -. ..'•, ~' Examination revealed an incipient fire in tlio after port bunker, whore the coal was smouldering, smoking, and steaming. Water was poured in, and. tho smoke ceased, and after a quantity of coal had been'removed a survoy was made by Llbyd'ssurvcyor. Tho manager of tho shipping company statesHhat tho.firo is not serious. It was caused by a naked steam pipe passing through the bunker and being covered with coal, which was fired by tho heat. ■> ■ The .departure of tho Rakaia was postponed till to-morrow morning.
