;Sir,—ln reading/ "Humanitarian's" letter in this morning's issue of your paper about tho brutal treatment, of the man, friendless and penniless, also an asthmatic'cripple, at Ymiganui, 1 feel it my duty. to. join with the writer: in.: not only denouncing such conduct, but seek to help remove the cause or causes producing.such evil effects. . Doubtless.tho magistrate'acted within .rights, .but in such a caso the real moral- aspect- of.the | case 'should, not have been so entirely, lost sight of . and lie should have treated the man in a 'different: Way to. what ha did, which could-'easily have been done without unduly straining the law. It is a case which calls for comment by the. press and tho attention, of those in authorityr—l am, etc., CITIZEN. May 5,1909./
