Judgment was delivered by ,tho Court ol , Appeal yesterday with respect to tho ciso of To Raera Tnroha (appellant) versus- tho lkaroa District Maori Land Board and William Herbert Guthiie-Snuth and Anno Lindsay Uuthrie-Smvth (respondents) '' it nppearod that Mr. Guthrie-Smitli held.' 0500 acres of the Tutira Block (Hawko's BSy), under loaac, from appellant and the otlior Native owners, for 21 years from Sep-1 tomber, 1894, and the balance pf the block, 10,090 aores, under 0 verbal agreement The Ndtuo Landa Commission recommended that | 13)420 acres bo leased to Mr. Gutbno-Simtli | , for 80 yeare, at a yearly rental of £1335, that 5570 acres be leased to his sister, Jliss Guthrie-Smith, for tho same ponod, at an annual rental of £70, that tho Native owners'" in addition' to tbo rent receive half tho royalty on tho-'flat grown on tho swamp ' lands at the western end of the lake, and that in order to enable tho Natives tostart ( shcop-farming 500 ncics adjoining tho Native reserve of IUOO aoics be taken out of the Jeaje It had been decided by tho IKaroa Maori Land Board that the leases should dato from April 1, 1908 Plaintiff claimed that the board be prohibited from executing tho proposed lenses. to do so. When the'police were sent for at 9.30 a.m. the two defendants turned into bunk. Both'defendants stated that tho trouble arose out of certain timo off that was due to them. When they.argued tho point they were taken before the ..captain, but they still got no satisfaction,, and tho police were sent lor. His .Worship convicted acoused, and lined each of them 10s., and. costs 75., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. .-.-,. '. ■ ..'A SERIOUS CHARGE. " An elderly man named Alexander Stephens pleaded guilty to a charge, of haying, on Hay i, unlawfully assaulted one Christina Anderson. On the application of Sub-Inspeotor Phair, who stated that the woman assaulted was in rather a bad state,, and that the doctor was afraid complications might set in, _a. remand for a ,week was granted. Bail was allowed in tho sum of *E4O, and two sureties of <£20 each. ■'. , A FOTTHER KEMAND. .: '. Joseph. Wm. Grindon, who. had been remanded for a week for medical-observation on a. charge that, on April 27, he did break arid enter the dwellingliouse of one John Hy. Meyer by night intent to commit a crime therein, was - again brought forward.
