LEVIN.

On Tuesday evening a good audience as-; som'bled for the opening night of the Levin Presbyterian Church Social and' Literary. So-., oiety. 'The Rev. J. White presided, -and welcomed tho members of tiio society and visitors. Ho brioriy stated the objects for. which they had banded together, and outlined the work,of. the session. The meetings were to be held in the Chiirch every 1 Mondiy evening, and popular lectures, essays, debates, etc., would be- features of tho .winter programme. 'The following programme '.was gono through:—Pianoforte selection, Mrs. 0. C. Nation; song, "Down the Vale," Miss Ramsay; recitation, Mrs. Pap Worth i song, Mr.W. J. Caton; reading in "broad Scots" dialect (from J. M.'Barrie), Mr: J. Robertson; song, "The Deathless Army," Mr.' D. Anderson; solo, "Consider tho Lilies," Mrs. T. Dovino; recitation,- Mr. A. Fry; song, "The Gift," Miss Ramsay; : song, Mr.; Caton. Refreshments wore then- handed round,, and opportunity was given, for social intercourse. The programme, was concluded by Mr. Robertson singing,-,"Lochnagar." Tho' accompaniments to the songs were played .by Mrs.,C. C.
