NEW ZEALANDEBS' F.IXtTJJiR£S. . The matches now beiug played are in connecition with the New South Wales .championship, .meeting, it having been deoided not to coin-; ploto the few remaining fixtures of the inter-' colonial meeting, as they could not have af-' fectcd tho-Nenr 'Zealand ladies', win. As regards the present New South 'Wales' .championships, .the results of Tuesday's play I show that Miss Nunneley .evidently 3net Miss Stewart (Victoria) in the first found of tho: ladies' : .ohampion singles, .and -the Victorian. Avon. The result of this, match considerably, lessens New Zealand's chance of lifting tho '. Now. .South Wales ladies' single championship.l In .the ladies' champion doubles Misses Gordon: (New South Wales)—a. par who were not in- 1 eluded in the intercolonial team—defeated on : Tuesday Misses Traycrs and Gray (N.'Z.). This; result tends to show that the New South Wales jadios generally ,aro expe.r.t doubles players. In (the intercolonial iconipetition Misses' Travers ' and Gray won two out of their three doubles. The Misses Gordon, however, failed ,'before Misses Nunneley .and P.o.wdrell. 'The New. South Wales championship meeting will oontinuo till .Saturday. Next Monday ,and Tuesday the New Zealand; ladies' team will play the Victorian [ladies'; ■team at Sydney ,pn the same Hives as ,ui the; intercolonial competition.' In the latter New: South. Wales ibeat Victoria, and New Zealand: ■beat New South Wales. .If .'Victoria next ,wcek beats New jsealand;the .position - will bo somewhat anomalous. ■ . "r
