Miss Orr, the victim of the cowardly assault on the eteamsr Moeraki on; Friday, is stated to be making good progress towards recovery. •' . Returns for last month show that the arrivals in the Dominion were 3347 and the departures 4785. In March, 1908, the arrivals were 3382 and tho departures 3998. On-Monday Mr. T. E. Y. Scddon, M.P., and Mr. Murdoch, Mayor, of Kuniara, interviewed tho Minister for Minos" and afterwards tho Prime Minister and Minister for Mines together regarding tho extension of the Kumara water-race- across the Tcremakau lliver. Cabinet has now como to a definite decision to proceed with the work. " . The case of Miss Florence Young is an excellent examplo of an individual success mluencing a whole family. When Miss Young wont on tho stage none of her brothers or Bister3—or cousins, or aunts for that matter—had . felt any particular call for the stage, but as she made herway : steadily upwards,; the sthgo became tho lode-star of the whole family. ■, 'Miss Millie Young achieved a fair position light opera and pantomime, and finally became Mrs. Geo, Tallis, wife'of one of tho members of "The Firm." Mr. Fred Young has been associate!: for about nineteen years with, tho Royal Oomic Opera Company, of which, ho is at present assistant stago manager. Another sister is shaping well in the same company, and a younger brother, Mr. Georgo Young, and his wifo(both formerly of Pollard's) aro appearing in tho "Jack and Jill" pantomime, now , on tour, in Australia, ■ Some timo ago Mr. J. E.' Fitzgerald approached the Minister for Railways'.'.(the Hon. J. A. Millar) in regard to stopping tho 5.10 p.m, train from Petene at Kaiwarra for the nurpose of picking up workmen returning home to the city. A reply has been forwarded by the Minister stating that as far as possible tho train services at .tho present time have been arranged with a view of meeting the convenience of the : wliole.of the.people who uso tho Wellington-Hutt railway for the purpose of travelling/between their homos and work daily, and tliat.it is not practicable to make any alterations without interfering with the running' of several trains, and causing delay thereto. Any delay to the suburban trains after 4.40 p.m. will completely, disorganise the whole of the services for several hours. In conclusion, the Minister trusts lihat : when the duplication of the line is completed te Kaiwarra many of tho difficulties that now_ obtrude them-selves-will disappear, and it may then'be practicable' to arrange tho services;accordingly. ~.;.'
