KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
-' AN ADVERTISEMENT DISCUSSED. The last meeting of tho Karon Borough Council, as at present constituted, was'held last night, when there ivcre present: The Mayor (Mr. C. I. Datent), and Councillors ,Wedde, Lissingtoh, Hammond, Spiers,, Bradnock, Cathie, Raine, and Agmen Smith.' A letter was received from the Karori Literary and Donating Sooiety asking for the use of the Council Chambers for its meetings. A ■neekly rental of ss. had been paid m the past, and the secretary '(Mr. J. B. .Jordan) aaked that it-be reduced. It was decided to Kiant the permission, and fix the rental at 4s. per I Tveek. , The City Auditor reported' that he had de-1 etroyed.a total number of 631 spoilt tramway tickets at:the electric lighting' furnace. " I Councillor'Agmen Smith asked a question as ' to why an advertisement had been published without the signature of the Town Clerk. Th'n Mayor r replied' that it had been tele-1 phoned, and t tho council was not paying for | Councillor Smith said that ho knew who'in-1 6erted if. ,It said that those councillors ivho were letiring ivould -addiess the meeting, but neither he nor Councillor Harris had been asked to address the 'meeting. .He said that Councillor,Hammond was the only one who wished "to speak, and he had inserted the advertisement. , Councillor Hammond rose and urged a point' of order. He alleged that Councillor Smith's statements wore nonsensical. ' The Mayor uphold the point of order, and earn Councillor Smith had brought privato matters into the delibe'rations of tho council. , Councillor Smith denied this. v I ahe Mayor then remarked that he had , authorised the advertisement, as he wished to I make a statement regarding Ms year's stownid- i unip, and no doubt some of the councillors wanted to do so, as he acted at the suggestion of three ,ofvtho councillors. Councillor Smith desired to know their.names. but the Mayor would not, give them. • Councillor Smith- Tlint moans that Councillor Hammond desired the,meeting called This called^ forth a protest from tho,councillor referred to, and tho' incident closed. ■
