KOMAKO-POHANGINA BRYNCH 'Tho nicctinc of the : Komako- : Pohangina branch of the Farmers', Union was. held .at Pohangina on Saturday. Mr. D. . Howie presided. Tho'bajancersheet, showing a: small .credit balance, w'as adopted. V.Tho chairman, in the course of a few re- 1 marks, said that only a few .members were ' in arrears .with their subscriptions. He re- 1 ferred to the statements made-that, the Farmers' XJuion was .working towards tlie Op- 1 position side of politics, and said that 1 this ! view was not correct.' The- union had in its | ranks members of both sides, and all farmers .were made welcome whether Liberal, or Conservative, dairy farmer or. sheep farmer, men. i - with big holdings or tho small • farmer.' In the Pohangina branch the small farmer pre- . dominated. Reference was made to tho annual picnic < | held in-February at tlio : Forest Reserve, Pohangina, and a hearty voto of 'thanks was 5 passed to Messrs. H. Smart and C. Eglinton 1 for their services on tho picnic committee. . Mr. Howie was unanimously elected president, of the .branch for tho ensuing year, and he was also elected delegate to represent the branch at the provincial conference at Eketa- . lnina 011 May 20. . " ' ' Th'o secretary reported that very few far- ' mers in tho valley wero not members of the " union. . The branch decided to hold a special meet- •? ing at the Raumai Hall on Tuesday after- ' noon, May 4, to consider, what, steps should be taken to copo with;the rabbit nuisance. "Bror Rabbit'-' IS-making his presence felt in v tho valley, though not in alarming numbers, r and 'it ' is considered that concerted steps should be taken before'the pest, gains too t strong a hold. 1 r
