THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT. DIVISIONS REDUCED TO FOUR. Cabinet ye"'.erday sanctioned important changes m tne Department of Agriculture, involving tho substitution of four divisions ' ' in plaeo of tho ten now existing, and alterations m the positions of several officers. Following are tho appointment's:— Mr. F. S. Pope, chief clerk, becomes secretary for Agriculture; as from November 1, 1909; and acting secretary from May. 1. . Mr. D. Cuddie, Dairy Commissioner, be- ' comes Director of Dairy Produce' Divisions* ■ Mr. ; C. J. Reakes, M.It.C.V.S., Chief, Veterinarian, becomes Director of the Livo : Stock and Meat Division. , » •Mr. J. L. Bruco, inspector of stock: in y charge of the Otago District, becomes Assistant Director of the Livo Stock and Meat Division. ■''• ' ' ■ Mr. E. Clifton, at present Chief Inspector of Stock and Director .of Experimental Farms, , becomes Director of Fields (and Experimental Farms Division. Mr. T. W. Kirk,, biologist, becomes Director of tho Orchards, Gardens, and Apiarietf Division. , , : v-. • ' Comparing tho divisions named above witli those set out in the Official Year-Book, it appears that the Dairy Division- is, practically unaltered, and that the division controlled by Mr. Kirk is changed in little or nothing but in name. The most important v chango is the breaking up of the Livo Stock . and ; Agricultural Division, leaving Mr., Clif- - ton in control of experimental agriculture, but removing livo stock from his supervision to .that of the Chief Veterinarian, whose position assumes a new. name.'. Macdonald, N.Z.M., Assistant AdjutantrGenoral Wellington Military District, succeed sColonel Lovoday (retired] as Officer Commanding the Public: School Cadets, and takes tho, rank of Major.
