CHARITY MEETING

Yestorday's unfavourable weather interfered with tho success of tho Wellington Pony and GalJoway Racing Club's Charity Meeting at Miramar. > When rain appeared to boioffnn'tho morning, th<s committee deoided to , proceed lWth the meotlng, but a heavy shower after dinner made it necessary to delaj tho first race for half an hour. Tho attendance was poor, and, 'though about a dozen bookmakers paid licenso fees, the venture can scarcely result in'a plofit to the club. This u to bo regretted, butj if it hippens that no profits are available for chinties, the club may possibly orrango another meeting for their benefit. Tho laoirtg track was under water in parts, and horses and riders "came in bospattered with mud after each raoo. In all but , two Omenta there wire more than four sHrtors, nnd racing resulted, tho finish of the Chanty Cup and of | tho Ambulance Handicap heme; closo and ex-' citing.
