THE BOYCOTT.

SPOILS TO THE VICTORS. . - (BT Txuuiuru.-srxeut. coiirkspomoiint.) ~. \ Marton, April 22. ■ In republishing The Dominion's article obout' Government advertising at the recent , election, tlio "Advocate," in an introductory rote to-night, says:—"Withui 1 a comparatively short time The Dominion ' has deser- ' 1,, • Decome no leading morning paper' in Wellington, and has gained a very largo circulation throughout the country districts. It has become thoroughly popular, and has done good service to the public by its free criticism ~ of public 'alf airs. Of courso.it has thereforo been boycotted by Ministers, and State advertising is withheld from it. Party service, not circulation, is tho guido when Ministers have any advertising to be done, and the policy of 'the spoils to the "victors' is still being followed." ' IN THE NAME OF ECONOMY. , ' Sir,—Your sub-leader of to-day shows tho tactics the present "Liberal Government" adopts at tho cost of the public, in order to injure and boycott an outspoken paper, with regard to its administration. I have often thought it will bo a sorry day for New Zealand when, or if, such fearless papers as The Dominion go under for want of adequate support. The abuses you haVo shqwTi op, and the daylight thrown by you on many matters of the utmost public importance, deserve the unqualified support of all rightthinking persons in the community. ,1 am not a shareholder in your paper, nor connected with it in any shtipo or form, but my admiration for it prompts'me to say that I, »nd, I bolicvo,' many others, would gladly double their subscriptions as an acknowledgment of_the services you are rendering to ihe public, and as sonic slight set-off against iho Government, advertising "boycott" yon point out.—l am, etc., REFORM. Wellington, April 21,.; 1009.
