THE REAL TEST.

• WHAT THE GOVERNMENT ANALYST SAYS. ' R.-O. CLARK, "LTD., IN FIRST, PLACE.' IN view of tho fact that the Wellington• City Corporation accepted a higher tender : than that of Messrs. R. 0. Clark, Ltd., for tile .supply of Sanitary Pipos;-cto;, tlierfollowing report'of the; Colonial Analyst on'samples of sanitary.pipes" from .various parts of •• the Dominion,. submitted to him' for test and analysis, shquld; prove of interest to citizens :— '• •• .' August 23rd, 1907. Messrs. R. 01 .'Clark,, Auckland. _ Gentlemen, received from you on the 17tli inst.,'a | piece';.of,,sanitary- 'gipe,'- being, a por* tion of one of yoiir 1-inch pipes. This eample was of a close, hard texture, and glazed on tlio insido and outsido. ' As desired, I .have tested the solubility .of this pipe material in Hydro-, ohloric Acid, under tho following conditions:— After'.removal of nil'the glaze by chipping, the snhiple was -crushed until'all had passed mesh having'6o,holes to the lineal inch, and dried' at 120 ;deg. of..the dry powder V'erfi placed in the, acid, which was of spcoifio gravity 1,089 (45 per cent, of 1-in. acid—Ure's tables),'; in tho ratio of one of. powder to 25 of acid; ' Tho period ofvtesting was (a) 12 hours very 'frequently'stirred, and (b) brought quickly to the boil and, boiled for one minute; Tho residues wero washed 'to the entire removal of acid, and. dried at 120 dcg., the results being as follow.--No, 1 Test (section of R. 0, Clark's ordinary ' 4-inch-Sanitary Pipe). ■ ■. Yours faithfully, , Advt. ' , R. O. CLARK, Auckland. Some remarkable photographs are at. present on view at tbo D.1.C., and also at the pharmacies of Messrs. W. S. "Wallace, Willis Street, Dunbar Sloiyne, Lambton Quay, and R. Johnston, Cuba Street. These photographs are certified by a well-known Christcliurnh photographer as being authentic, and produced direct from tho negative without anv retouching. Tho represent both ladies anil gentlemen on tho ono hand practically hairless, and on tho other showing very flno' heads of hair. I.t is interesting to noto what difference hair makes to a person's appearance. Oho man, from a back view of the head, looks as if ho wore'' seventy, another photo of the same man, taKon with the hair restored, makes him look what ho is—about thirty. 1 Tho originals of these photographs have to thank "Brice's Regenerator" for the speedy return of their hair,
