FIRES.

NEWSPAPER OFFICE DAMAGED. TWO OUTBREAKS. (B» TELEGRAPH—rBESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, April 17.. The jobbing and printing departments of the "Taranaki Herald" were destroyed by firo at one o'clock this morning. The literary and linotype departments escaped, being in a brick building, with steel shutters over the windows and doors. It is impossible to estimate the daraago at present.' The building is insured for ■ £650, but' tho total loss in machinery and plant is £1750. It is feared the.damage is irreparable. Both offices' and plant were insured with the New Zealand Company. ■ .-.-..... A slight outbreak occurred-early on Wednesday morning in the same.building, when tho office's May-Oatway, alarm brought the brigade before tho fire had any hold.
