CARTERTON.
Last evening a complimentary social was tendered to Mr. George William Delle'r by the members of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society and the Taratahi--1 Carterton Racing Club, the event, being arranged as a send-off on the occasion of Mr.' Boiler's departure on a trip to England. The gathering was a. representative one, 1 and. miring the course-of tho proceedings, the guest of tho evening.was made the recipient of a- handsome gold: watch and albert' with sovereign case' attached. The presentation was made by the president (Mr. H. R. Bunny), and suitably acknowledged by the recipient. A pleasant evening was spent afterwards. Mr. Deller has been a prominent member of the Pastoral Society since its inception.. He holds the position of treasurer,, and, for many years, has been steward of the luncheon at tho show, which, by the way, has won a reputation of its own. He has been also a useful member of the Racing Club. The watch was inscribed: "Presented to Mr. G. W. Deller by-.the "Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Tho bahnce-shcot shows a credit of £40 155., which (iu view of a fairly .heavy expondikiro during , the year) is deemed satisfactory. Annual sub- ■ sidios are acknowledged from tho Carterton Uorough Council, and the Wairarapa South County Council, and supplies of magazineo [ and newspapers from subscribers and friends. In November last, Miss E. M. Hovdhouse resigned her position as librarian) , and the position was filled by tlio appointment of Mr. A. Peden, ,\vho now rbsides on the premises. Toomath, of the Rifle \ Volunteers, who is also scoutmaster of the local patrol of boy scouts, addressed a well* i attended meeting of youug men and lads ; at Masterton, on Thursday evening, in the !
