AUCKLAND'S PRODUCTS.
Our Auckland correspondent writes:—A writer in "Herald" states that m the last: five w! six years the butter exports .from Auckland; have been increasing beyond all expectations, and yet the dairy industry; may/.be said to be still in its infancy as.far as Auckland is concerned. The butter passecl through "the Auckland Farmers' Company's works at Auckland and . Southdown vfor the nine- months ending ■Wflrtnrin contract rates over £460,000,, and tho -total make of butter for the year, including: that for localconsumntioiv must: approximate, in value not'far short of three-quarters of a million. As compared with the.nine months ended March 31, 1908, the nine months just ended show an increase of 29,797 carcasses of lamb and 5436: carcasses of sheep, but beef .shows a decrease of 132 head. Taken all round, the moat exports: speak volumes.'for the rate at. which development of rural in dustry is going on in Auckland.' Only a few years back it used to. be believed that 'Auckland would never be much else than a gold timber, and kauri gum exporting country."'
