Taking advantage of the holidays, the convicts at Gaillon prison, in the north-west of France, where, desperate criminals aro eonfined, seized the gaol, and forced the wardens, ty threatening to wreck the prison, to serve them with soup, wiiie, and. tobacco. Next day troops arrived on the sceno, and with fixed bayonets compelled the convicts to surrender. Sixteen of the prisoners escaped to the,woods, arid nine are,still at liberty.
