; A.- F. Burchell, who has boon appointed io take charge of tho new Central Methodist Mission, will assume his duties tomorrow. For tho past nine months he has been at Cape Egmont, and prior to that was in bouth Africa for four years. In addition to services in the Mission Hall in Herbert btreet to-morrow, there will bo a spccinl service at tho Opera House at 8.15 o'clock.
A large orowd assembled on tho wharf yesterday to bid ■ farewell to Lieutenant Snackleton and his comrade, Lieutenant Adams, who were passengers for Sydney en route to London. Among others tho Prime Minister (Sir ; Joseph Ward), Lady Ward, Miss Ward; tho Attorney-General (Dr. Findlay), and Mrs. Findlay went on board to wish them bon voyage. Just as the Rivorina cast off nearty cheers were, at tho instance of the students of Victoria College, given for the 'explorers'. r
