T. jMackcnzio reached Dunediu by this afternoon's express from Oamaru, having come overland from the West' Coast by way of Central Otago aiid'-Dansey's Pass. Speaking to a reporter he ,said that he had been around the Hermitage aiul over tho lasman glacier to find out ivhat alterations wore required in connection with the accommodation, and to see what could bo done to connect that part with ;tlie West Coast scenic country. Mr. Alackonzie is of opinion that- a hut should be erected at the Hooker. Valley and at Ytelooino Road on tho western side, and tiiat there should also he a short cutting in tho lorost. Regarding the Hermitage, Mr. Mackenzie said that it wis built in tile .irrong place, ajul Ittle money should he spent on it in future. There is an excellent site about a mile nearer FaWin. which would be an almost ideal 0110 fur the eiaction ol - a building. The Minister' will recommend the Government to deroto attention to those spots. Jieing anxious to lind out what sort of connection there was between Lake I'ul.p.ki and Lake Wanaka, the Minister went over the Lindis Pass. Mr. 'Ridley, tho contractor ' for the Fairlie Hermitage motor scrvico, took charge of the expedition. Mr. Mackenzie eoes to Uiddhmiarch to-morrow.
