4 AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON COMPARED. The following ecmparativo tables will be found interesting as showing the rateable value of property in Auckland and' Wellington. It f will be seen that for the year just clocsd, ] tho amount of rates collected in Wellington ( totalled .£135,2-16, as against .406,651 in the ] northern city. It should bo remembered, in ( explanation of the increase shown in the 1907-5 1 figures, that it was during that year that the larger portion of the Onslow Borough joined t the city, thus increasing tho rating area, and i that Northland was added to the city last year.
