The Primo Minister, and the Hons. J. A. Millar, James Carroll, Dr. Findlay, D. Buddo, and G. Fowlds aro at present in town. Tho Hon. A. W. Hogg left for Masterton by tho afternoon train yesterday; tho Hon. T. Mackenzie was at Dunedin last night, and will probably bo at Middlomarch to-day; the Hon. A. T. Ngata is at Rotorua, and the Hon. It. M'Kenzio at Cheviot.
Mr. Day, tho new S.M., was welcomed by tho Bar, sitting for tho first timo, yesterday, says a Timaru Press Association telegram.
Dr. Rex Plummer, surgeon to H.M.C.S. Iris, arrived yesterday from Waiouru, where 110 has spent a fow days visiting Ruapchu and Ngauruhoe.
His Grace Archbishop Redwood, ho celebrated his seventieth birthday 011 l't.'ay last, is to bo entertained by the clergy of tho archdiocese at Godber's rooms this evening.
Tho Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways, arrived at Auckland from Rotorua last night, and will stay thero for a day or two beforo returning to Wollington.—Press Association.
i Mr. Carter, general business manager of To Aro Houso, entertained tho wholo To Aro House staff at a progressive euchro party at Melbourne House 011 Tuesday night. During the evening, in addition to the game, the guests were entertained with a good deal of music, and altogether they spent a delightful timo.
. It is understood that Mr. Edward Saunders, son of tho editor of tho "Lyttelton Times," will go to England with L'ieutenant. Shackleton as his private secretary, and will assist him in writing a book giving tho history of tlio British Antarctic expedition.. 'Mr. Saunders is a member of tho literary staff of the "Lyttelton Times," and has represented that paper in the Parliamentary press gallery for several sessions.
A Napier Press Association telegram states that Mr. Thomas Hall, for the last thirteen years District Lands Registrar and Registrar of Deeds' for Hawke's Bay, has been appointed District Land Registrar, Registrar of Deeds; and Examiner of Titles for the Auckland district, succeeding Mr. Edwin Bamford, who has been appointed Registrar-General of Lands. Mr. Hall loaves Napior for Auckland in the course of a fow days.
Sir. W. C. Hernery, manager of tho industrial department of tlio A.M.P. Society, who lias been appointed to the jwsition of assistant accountant at tho branch office, was tho recipient yesterday afternoon of a handsome cake-stand from tlio superintendents and field staff of tho department. Mr. W. J. Gambia, senior'superintendent, mado the presentation, and referred to tho cordial relationship which had always existed between Mr. Hcmery and tho staff, congratulating him upon his promotion in the sociotv's service. Tho members of the office staff also gavo a silver pencil caso as a token of their esteem. Mr. Hemory suitably acknowledged the gifts.
