(ritOU OUII GriXIAI, COKKKSFONDENTS.) ■ « MASTEBTON. • Mr. Thomas D. Thompson died at Masterton Hospital .yesterday morning. Deceased was a very old resident of the Wairarapa, and had lived hero for the part thirty years. Ho was tho licensee of the Taueru Hotel, and subsequently, of the Empire Hotel, for a number of years, lie also built and conducted tho Princo of Wales stables. His wife predeceased him eighteen months ago. Ho leaves two sons to mourn their loss, Mr. T. Thompson, saddler, and Mr. AY. Thompson. Tlie funeral takes place on Thursday. Dr. Prior delivered an interesting lecture on "The Story of Some-Medical Discoveries" to a largo audience, at tho Cciigrcgation.il Church, last evening. Tho Rev. A. Hodge occupied tho chair, and, at tho conclusion of tlio address, a hearty vote of •thanks was accorded to the lecturer, on the motion of Mr. J. Hunter, seconded by Mr. A. Hendry. Little interest is being taken hero in tho forthcoming election of Mayor and councillors, and, from present appearances, events will pass off quietly. It is understood that Mr. Hollings, the present Mayor, intends to stand for tho position again, and so far no opponent has been announced. •At a meeting of tho Masterten County Council, held yesterday, , two important resolutions were carried. Tho first was that it bo an instruction to tho clerk to withhold payment of tho Charitable Aid Board contributions until tho question of tho objection to tho inclusion of £1800 for the Victoria Homo for chronic invalids in tho Charitablo Aid. Beard demand has been settled Tho second resolution was that it be a recommendation to the council to pass a resolution dissenting from the demand of tho AYellington and AVairarapa United District Charitable Aid Board for the year ending March 31, 1910, on tlio ground of tho inclusion therein of tho sum of £1800 for tho maintenance of tho A : ictoria Homo for incurables.
