Tho'only'persons sleeping on the. promises wero the proprietor, Mr. Holland, two employee? named Mr. ,aml Mrs. Brown, and a man named-John Pryde. Tho. origin of tho fire is unknown. The amount of- insurance is not ascertainable. The license of the hotel, which was in tho Mastertoii electorate, would have expired at tho end of June next.

OUTBREAK IN PIRIE STREET, A fire broko out in a four-roomed house occupied by Mr. Alexander James, No. 70 Pine Stroet, about one o'clock yostorday morning. Tho brigade was quickly on- the spot and the flames woro soon oxti'nguishu! tho damago being confined to the back portion of the building, more, particularly to a bedroom and its contents. Mr. James and his friends wero away on holiday.

HOUSE AT ORIENTAL BAY BURNT. Another outbreak occurred at 7.36 p.m., when the brigade was called to a six-roomed houso in Oriental Crescent, at th-o back of Oriental Bay. Tho building, which was owned by Mr. J. Launder, and occupied by Mr. Henry C. Young, was totally destroyed together with the contents. After detailing a fow men to stand by, the main body or tho brigade returned to tho station. Tho building, which was fully detached, bad to bo allowed to burn itself out. The lmildinc was insured in the South British Office for £OaU, and the contents were covered by a policy for £150 uvtlio United Office.
