OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS.
ACTION BY VICTORIA COLLEGE. An enthusiastic meeting was held at Victoria UUoge yesterday morning to consider tho question of the formation of an officers' training corps. There were present: Mr. rv.li; *n (f> 1;J "' mim "f tho Victoria College Counci), Professor Kirk (chairman of Victoria Collego Professorial Board) Prolcssors Haslam (Canterbury College), Malcolm (Otago University College), Vo„ Zedlite Victoria College), and Messrs. A. G. Marshall and K Sisson (Auckland College), H Gibsonand G. S. M'Kcnaie (Canterbury College j. A. Oowles, B. St. J. Beere a,?d b. A. Atkinson. (Victoria College). Mr G Hogbcn, Inspector-General of Schools, 'and Licut.-Coloiiol A. Bauchop, C.M.G., Officer Commanding the District, were also present by invitation of tho mooting. Professor Haslam moved :-"'fliat wo affirm tho principle that it is expedient to form an officers training corps at each of tho university centres." This was seconded by Mr. S. A. Atkinson aim carried unanimously. Professor Kirk moved .-—"That' the Professorial boards bo asked to consider the matter of a.pproachmg the University Senate urging that military training be a subject m tho arts course, proficiency in an officers' training corps being a practical requireThis was seconded by Mr. J. A. Cowlcs and carried unanimously. A meeting of delegates of tlio students of the various colleges was held subsequently and conditions were arranged for shooting for the shield presented last year by Profes sor Haslam fur competition among the uiii vorsifcy colleges.
