Fisher made short work of Hunter and, in. turn, was badly beaten by Brown (Wellington), who outmanoeuvred him, catching torn ont of position on several occasions. Swaneton was too sure and steady for Wilson, who, however, played well. Young ran Peacock into" a threat match/and it was.only the latWs safety 7 that brought him victory '• Ti" ,1 I I*,? accounted for a good couple tt Smythe and Ypnng, who took the first set, •""'■ailed with a 'vantage in the second. Hiss Gray one of. those who are going to Australia, had a sharp tussle with Hiss Ledger, of Nelson, who took a set from her, but was in turn defeated by Miss Nunneley. The lattors clever driving was too much for" her. Miss Travers was not playing well against Miss Batham, who ran the first set into advantage, and made a good showing in the second. Miss Travers, m the next round, quite outclassed Miss Ward, the latter appearing not tc have struck form yet. Miss Gray and Miss Travers will prove a Bplendid combination. Hiss Gray's net worli yesterday was greatly admired, and, with Miss IVavers on the back line, she had no difficult in disposing of Misses Meares and Turton Miss Simpson and Miss Ledger proved just tot strong for Hrs. Holmes and Miss Batham, th< former pair working Mrs. Holmes very hard. Mrs. Holmes and Webber kept their op ponents busy, and ran the second set into i 12-10 game. The surprise of the day in tht combined matches was the defeat of Mis; Wellwood and Brown by Miss Simpson ant Symthe, the former pair having been expected to win the event. Brown.was not up to form in the -match, and "poached" with small sue cess. • TO-DAY'S ARRANGEMENTS.
