A cablegram has been received by the Gear Company stating that Mr. W. H. Millward, managing director of tho company, has arrived in London, accompanied by .Mrs. Millward and Miss Wilberfoss. Tho party, which travelled by the lonic, oxpericnecd a very pleasant trip, and are in excellent health.
Lady Plunkct has been advised from London that a son has boon born to her brother, Lord Frederick Temple Blackwood (fourth son of tlio first' Marquis of Duflorin and AvaJ. The event is one of forno importance, as it is tho first male child born 011 the male side of the Blackwood family. Lord Blackwood, D.5.0., is a captain in the 9th Lancers.
At a general meeting of the Otago a,nd Southland Licensed Victuallers' Association 011 Thursday morning, tlio Rev. William Thomson was the recipient of a handsome presentation on the occasion of his leaving the service of tlio association. Mr. Thomson (says tlio "Otago Daily Times") has definitely dccided to enter public life, and with that view will devote his time to the study of politics and other questions. Colistablo M'Crorie, of I'apnnui, who has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Wellington, was presented, prior to his departure, with an illuminated address, a purse of sovereigns for Mrs. M'Crorie, and a gold locket for Miss iVi 'Crorio. Mr. I'. M, Stewart, J.l'., occupied tlio 'dmir. In reading the address and presenting the testimonials, Mr. Huntin expressed the esteem in which Mr. M'Crorio and family were held by the residents during their three years among them, and the regret felt at parting with such an eflicient and oouscieutious officer.
