At the ordinary meeting of the. Borough Council his Worship the Al ayor read a statement of tho gas works, showing tho cost and working from its inception, \ihen tho erection of tho works waa first mooted tho advice of several experts was obtained, and it ivas that it would take threo years boforo tho works could show any margin of profit. This, however, has proved to be inaccurate, for in two years the woiks have gained sufficient consumers to show a profit of £1-12 on their last year's working. This position is to a great extent due to the energetic working of tho manager, Mr. Powers, to whom the council voted a bonus of £25. During the evening the, Mayor thanked the councillors for the courteous manner in which they had treated him during their term of office..
