ORGAN RECITAL.
' Abouij a thousand people went to the Town Hall yesterday afternoon to hear a recital of sacred music by tho'city organist (Mr. Maughan Barnett). Many of the audience were strangers to Wellington, taking advantage of a holiday visit to enjoy a musical pleasure of a kind that can scarcely bo obtained in tlio samo perfection anywhere else in tho Dominion. Tho programme opened solemnly with Chopin's "Funeral March," .which was followed by "Avo Maria" (Schubert)'. Then followed Guilmant's "Funeral March and Hymn of Seraphs." The audience was deeply impressed by the tremendous climax proclaiming the Day of' Judgment, and,tho succeeding change to pianissimo, with the beautiful Resurrection passage and ethereal "Hymn of Seraphs." The next number was "Meditation" (Bach-Gounod), and then camo Wagner's mystic Good Friday music from "Parsifal," the programme} concluding with a meditation on three "Pas-sion-tide" hymn tunes.
