The London "Daily Mail's" New York correspondent reports that, as a sequel to the deal cabled in tho middlo of October, 1907, and to avoid litigation, but reserving the right to recover from tho Metropolitan Street Railways Company, Mr. T. F. Ryan and tho trustees of W. Whitney's and W. Elkin's estates, with Messrs. Wiclencr and Dolan, have sent the Metropolitan Securities Company a" cheque for £138,458, which they received -when in 1902 the company paid Bready £193,100 for tho Crosstown' Tramway Company, then existing ,on papor, Moore and Schley received £26,800. Tho above group declare .that the money represented repaymont of loans of the fate Mr. Whitnoy for the benefit of tho Street Hailway Company. It was intimated during the inquiry in •1907 that tho money had been used to defray railway corporations'' legislative, political, and other secret expenses.
