Hogg in Taranaki, tho Hon. D. Buddo at Rangiorii, the Hon. •T. Mackenzie in the vicinity of Mount Cook, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata en route for Rotorua. Major and' Mrs. Don. Donald sailed for Sydney by tho Manuka on Thursday. The Hon. A. T. Ngata left for the north by tho express train yesterday. Mr. F. It. Flatman, cx-M.P., is a candidate for tho Mayoralty of Gcraldine. Mr. Justice Cooper loft yesterday for Auckland, where ho will spend tho Master vacation. Mr. A. L. Hcrdman, M.P., left'for Sydney by. the Manuka, which sailed from Wellington on Thursday. The Hon. Dr. Fimllay, Minister for Justice, has promised to open the Catholic Bazaar at tlio Skating Rink this ovoning. Mr. W. H. Honey, formerly in business in Wellington, arrived from Sydney by tho Moana on Wednesday. Mr. T. G. Russell, tho well-known Christchurch solicitor, with ills. Russell, left on a trip to England on Thursday. A movement is on foot in Eastbourne to entertain Mr. F. G. Bolton, the retiring Mayor, at a social to ho held at nil early date. Major Fraser was a passenger hv the Manuka, which left Wellington for Sydney on Thursday, Captain llomnii travelled by tho samo steamer. Tho Row W. G. Taylor, founder and superintendent of tho Jlothodist Central Mission in Sydney, returned to Australia, by the Manuka on Thursday. Tho Hon. R. M'Kenzio, Minister for Public Works, leaves Greymout'h to-dav for Oiira. After inspecting the Midland Railway Works ho will go on to Christchurch.
Mr. Leslie Reynolds, of Duncdin, lias ro turned from a visit of inspection of the Wa ngaimi harbour works, and purposes leaving to-day for Otira and Hokitika. Mr. G. H. Smith, who .was last in Wellington with the Kolkcr-Titheradgc Company, is manager of the Royal Comic Opera Company, which commences a season at tho Opera House this evening. A Nelson Press Association telegram states that the Rev. C. 11. Garland, Methodist minister, who has been transferred to Durham Street, Christchurch, after three years at Nelson, was presented with various'farewell gifts at a crowded meeting of his congregation on Thursday ovening. Mr. Howard Carr, the musical director of the Royal Comic Opora Company, is a magnetic conductor and a composer of some note. 1 Amongst othor things, ho is responsible for the score of tho lyric opera, "Tho Black Opal," and lately has been moved to sot to music an excellent bit of Australian verso entitled ''The Hush." This work ho has endeavoured to invest with the colour and atmosphere of tho Australian bush—ite beauty, grandour, and mystery, and those..-'.ho have beou privileged to hear tho work- t.is arranged for a baritone solo with a cnural sotting—speak highly of its impressive melodies and effective orchestration.
