Wearer Corps assembled in ofio of the lccturo rooms for the purpose of receiving the Jifficiency Ohallengo Shield, woi-by them in- competition with the other corffe of this branch of the service. The shield Is awarded on the basis of tho results of tho°inspectiou, and -examination of the various fcompanies each year. n Nt' t Major J. R. Purdy, Principal Medical Officer for the district, made the presentation, and in a short speech, complimented the corps and their commanding officer "(Major C. Macluo Begg) on tho excellent results of tha year's work, and the honour ''Achieved by them in winning tho shield. -Referring to tho importance of this branch of 1 the service, Major Purdy quoted from a recent speech by Lord Middloton, who, when Secretary of State for War,'had , founded the It.A.'M.C. Colloge, to tho effect 'that this was all age of conflicting opinions with regard''to the army. The one clear and consistent point of agreement which' had been reached in a fifteen years' controversy was thattwe expense and labour of maintaining the troops in health in the field was as .important as' that for placing them there.
