HOMING PIGEON SOCIETY.
On Saturday .last the Wellington Homing Pigeon Society flew its .Derby race from Waitotara, when ninety birds, representing fifteen lifts competed. An exceptionally fast race home resulted, the placed birds flying the 101 miles to Wellington in a fen- seconds under two hours. The leading birds were as follow:—Mr. R. MMntyre's No. 470. velocity l.Wiyds. per minute, 1; Mr. J. H. Clark's No. 259, velocity 1532 yds. per minute, 2; Mr. A. Clark's No. 42, velocity 1521 yds. per minute, 3; Mr. W. Ahler's No. 164, velocity 1520 yds. per,minute, i; air. J. J. Elliott's No. 11, velocity >1516 yds. per minute, 1; J.. H. Clark's No. 259, velocity 1507 yds. per minute, (i. The winner receives 1 Mr. J. Goer.'s trophy, valued JJI la.
