THE FEVER HOSPITAL.

ANOTHER MOVE FORWARD, It will be remembered that the power to erect a new hospital for infectious diseases was recently delegated to the Wellington Hospital Trustees, who received such power from the Wellington District Hospital Board. A site was procured bv exchange 011 the Mount View Mental Hospital Keservc, at Wellington South, but considerable differenco of opinion arose as to what class of building was necessary. Somo of the trustees were of opinion that a wooden building would. suffice for the needs of tho city, but the consensus of medical opinion was strongly against this, on the ground that it would only be a matter of a few years when tho wood would becoino gcrm-infected, and tho building unsuitable for tho treatment of fever patients. Finally, it was decided to agree to a scheme which involved the expenditure of some ,£13,000 on a brick building. Since that timeabout two months ago—nothing further has been done, it being a mattor for the Health Department to declare what local bodies shall contributo to tho cost of the institution, and to call a conference of tho same to decido on tho apportionment of tho cost of erection ami maintenance.

Yesterday the secretaries and clorks of tho local bodies affected received notice from tho Chief Health Officer (Dr. Mason) stating' that the establishment of an infectious disoasos hospital is necessary, and naming the following bodies as contributors to the scheme:— Wellington. City Council, Onslow Borough Council, Karori Borough Council, Eastbour'no Borough Council, Miramar Borough Council, Lower Hutt Borough Council, Horowhenua County Council, Hutt County Council, Petone Borough Council, Mnkara County Council, ■Tohnsonville Town Board, Upper Hutt Town Board, and Levin Borough Council. Following 011 this a conference of representatives will bo held to decido on (ho apportionment of cost, which, however, cannot bo aoourately done until a tender is accepted for tho erection of tho new building.
