VOLUNTEER ROAD RACE.
Tho first annual road raco held by No. 3 Wellington Garrison Artillery Volunteers took place on Tuesday evening, in perfect weather. The course was from Tc Aro Baths to Magazine l'oint and back. Twelve entries were received, but only four men faced tho starter. Lieutenant Brown acted as starter, and the race was an exciting one. Wilton managed to reach the point first, but, on turning homeward, Murray caught him, Wilton trying vainly several times to shake him off. About a hundred yards from home Wilton caught his opponent, and seenred first honours by a small margin. The following is the result:—Gunner A. Wilton, fastest time, 1; Gunner Murray, 2; Gunner Lyons, 3. Also started: Gunner Faulkner, rime, lOniin. 11 4-ssec. A 100 yards event was also decided, Gunner Lyon gaining first place, with Gunner Murray second.
