A Nelson Press Association telegran Btates that tho first egg-laying competitioi concluded yesterday, and was won by Mr J. A. Frost's white leghorns, with a tota of 1272. Mr. Savage's white leghorns wen second, with 1269, and Mrs. Rogers's whit< leghorns third with 1264. Then followet Messrs. Coleman and Black's brown leg horns, 1256; Mr. H. C. Jacka's white leg horns, 1236; Mr. W. ~ Hockey's brown leg horns, 1226. The total number of eggs laic was 39,797, an average of 1047 a pen am 174J eggs a bird. The second duck egg-laying competitioi held in the Dominion was formally openec at Mr. J. B. Merrett's poultry farm, St Albans, yesterday afternoon, by the Mayo of Christchurch (says a Press Associatioi telegram) ._ There are twenty-six pens en tered, which is claimed to be a world's re cord. 'Pwenty-two pens are Indian runners one pekins, and three buff orpingtons.
