ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
■ "FOUND DROWNED."' OUT OF WORK AND DESPONDENT. An inquest was held at the morgue yesterday afternoon before Dr. A. M'Artliur, S.M., Coroner, on the _body of the man Simmy Rogers, found in the.harbour off Karaka Ray on Tuesday. Isaac Newbold Hull, gardener, residing' at Karaka Bay, gave evidenco as to finding tho body of deceased at 7.50 a.m. on Tuesday. Tho body was on the shore just above hjghwator mark. ■ Peter L. Muir, secretary of the- Tailors' Union, said he had known deceased for 5£ years. Ho came from Auckland,as,ho could get no work there, and ho applied to witness for work at tho end of January, but witness was unablo to get anything suitable for him. On February 25 he asked for help saying that he had got to his last penny. Ho mentioned that ho had been on tho Miramar Wharf the previous day, and was on tho point of throwing himself ovor when ho thought of witness; Witness gavo deceased £5 55., which money ho said would tide him over his difficulties, and urged him not to think of doing away with himsolf, as he (witness) know where ho could get money for pressing needs. This was tho last ho saw of deceased, but lator, on March 29, ho received a letter from him saying that ho was going to commit suioido as ho was still idle, and tho future outlook for work was not bright. After getting the letter witness went up to deceased's lodgings, but Rogers was not there, and witness informed the police. Deceased was a sober man, 56 years of age, and a faithful worker. He was married, but witness did not knew whore his wifo was. Ho know, however, ho had no relatives in the Dominion, where ho had resided for 16 years. Maud Porteous, with whom deceased had lodged for tho past nine weeks, had noticed that Rogers was worried, but ho made no complaiut. Ho loft tho liouso on Monday morning, saying that ho was going away, and would send for his things. Constable Sim, who brought the body into 'town, stated that deceased was fully dressed with tho exception of tlio coat; Witness afterwards received tho coat hud a bag. A verdict of "found drowned" 1 was returned, his Worship remarking tliat thoevidenco pointed very clearly to a caso of suicide.

Robert l'hilles, a single'man, residing at 10 Rose Avenue, had one of his legs broken yesterday, and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Donald M'Gregor, a sawmill hand employed at Forest Hill, • while working with a to-day, had his arm severed below tho ulbow. M'Gregor is now in hospital, doing as well as can be cxpect-ed.
