A SENSATION ON LAMBTON QUAY.

GEM TO ELFRIDA. Dear Elfrida, To-day's dawn heralds tho commencement, of the most sensational Sale yet known in the city of Wellington. Although we are just on the fringe _of winter, with her newest and most charming goods just ready to be purchased, wq fortunate people of this most important City of the North are being offered the best and most select apparel with which t-o bedeck ! ourselves at tremendously reduced figures I Are we not indeed the chosen people? I was graciously allowed yesterday to take a peep. > Faix, my dear Elfrida, tho sensation that the most extremely liberal offer —ahem! I said most liberal—of a, Dreadnought from this nice littlo country of ours has mado throughout tho world is but mild compared with the extraordinary event of The Economic's Easter Bargain Sale, starting to-day. I know how partial you aro to smart Walking Skirts, although you are a countrybred demoiselle. Messrs. George, and Kersley are offering beautifully-cut pleated Walking Skirts of smart plaids in very subdued tones at 10s. 6d. They aro ideal skirts for morning outdoor wear, with smart shirt waists. Tliero were a large number of Tweed Costumes, in browns and grenats, at 30s. each. A few navys were included in this lot. They are all well and smartly cut, with braid and buttons. I was delighted and half incredulous as I eyed the Dressing Gowns of thick Molleton flannelette for 12s. 6d. So comfy and warm they looked, and each had a thick soft girdle, attached. You would gasp at the slaughter of white Underskirts. These are all exceedingly dainty, much bcfrilled with pretty laces and insertions, at tho astonishing price of 3s. lid. Black Moreen and Italian Cloths, with full wido frills, at 4s. lid. These Skirts aro wide, and fall comfortably to the figure. The Hosiery Department is showing a charming array of Stockings, lace and embroidered, at low quotations; whilst the Gloves are a veritable temptation. Long white washing Kids and Suedes at 3s. lid., in 2 and 6 buttons. Oh, poor country mouse, hidden away 'midst sheep and cattle, how ridiculous you would look, were it possible to plump you down in The Economic any time during to-<lay. Elfrida, you always did gape at extraordinary sights. It is a peculiarity uniquely your own. The crowds surging this store would set that foolish thing in your bosom going sledge-1 hammer fashion. | And you adore big wholesome crowds I So do I! One feels so acutely alive when being jostled to right and tho left—it is so impossible to feel dead! How I lingered amongst tho Hats and tho Flowers 1 Flowers and Feathers, Wings and Fruit! They aro legion I Trailing berries—full and ripe, and crimsoned coloured. I saw a Hat of red "Terry" silk, with these gloriously-toned berries clinging and twining around and about tho crown, and with a brown green, amber and crimson shot wing of regal length. Marked at a fabulous reduction, it was a dashing chapeau, and upon a brunette would be enchanting. Parisicnno models in the "Merry Widow" and other shapes of most becoming designs are marked Bs. 6d. Thcso havo beautiful wings and ' quills adorning them, with swathings of silk. Ready-fo-wear Hats in felts at 12s. 6d., with ribbon and wings—thcso aro so smart and becoming, and for inland people particularly, most useful. 1 found myself at last amongst tho Feather Boas! Once again feminine fripperies played havoc with my heart. They are in all colours, each being big, fat; lovely things, that a woman, young or old,' looks so charming in. And Furs, women's great delight! Marmot, hare, sable, and ermine, real and imitation! Every one at Easter bargain price. > 'Amongst the novelties, my dear Elfrida, ono always grows bewildered, so full of exquisite etceteras is this department. So exceedingly dainty; so trim and wistful tins minute adornments! Such little bits of things! Mere whispers of chiffon and tulle; laco and silk! They aro enticements no woman can withstand! And now, my dear Elfrida, I must close. I am not so dull of understanding that I do not recognise tho longings in your heart and tho pictures conjured in your brain of your most diminutive self iu all theso beautiful things I have discoursed upon! Como down on Saturday and seo for yourself, and go back laden. Would it not bo splendid? Best wishes, GEM. C9Ol .
