TJIE JIOEItAKI. On board tho Union Company's steamer Itoeraki, which left Sydney at 2 p.m. on Saturday, are 66 saloon and 80 steerage passengers for Wellington. She is due here to-morrow morning. UNION COMPANY'S CARGO BTEAMEHS. The Union Company's, steamer Whangape leaves Napier on Tuesday for Wellington, and is due on Wednesday. She loads sheep at Wellington and proceedn to Lyltclton. The Ariilnira left Westport at two a.m. for Greymouth, where she arrived at six a.m. She wan timrd to sail at three a.m. to-day for Wcstport. To-morrow the Kaituna leaves Westport for Wellington. It is expected that tho Kainpoi will leave Wellington to-day for Greymouth. THE HAWKES BAT. Early yesterday morning tho. Tyscr Lino steamer Ifawlies Day, from Liverpool, via Auckland, arrived in port. Captain M'Quccn is in charge, and has with him the following officers; -Chief, Itr. P. J. lieynolds; second, Mr. W. G. Tliggs; third, Mr. B. T. Cowlishaw. Mr. W. Martin is tho chief engineer. She is expected to leave on Thursday for Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge. Tho Ifawkc'e Bay is due back in AVclljrgton on Good Friday, and after loading at Tclluigton proceeds thence to Australia to complete. A PECULIAE P!ND. According to the Wanganui "Herald" an interesting fir.d was made op. .March 26 underneath the stranded steamer Charles Edward. When the diver was down examining the hull, he found a. propeller lying just clear of the stern of the boat, but as the Charles Edward's propellers (sho is a twin-screw boat) were in position all right, it is evident that the propeller found by the diver must have been dropped from another steamer at somo time or other. It is threebladed, abont six feet across, and with part of a tail shaft. The diver says it in quite smooth and clean, and le thinks tho boss has , been painted red. If a chance offers, an attempt will bo made to pick up the propeller. It is thought in Bomo quarters that this screw was probably the object wlich the steamer struck when crossing the bar, and that it became embedded in her bottom, and was carried .along until she finally grounded, afterwards falling off her. To what steamer the screw formerly belonged is a mystery, though' it is, wo understand, thought probable that it was one lost by the Waverley some time ago. ONEirrJNGA AND NEW PLYMOUTH SERVICE. As previously announced in THE DOMINION, tho Union Steam Ship Company and the Northern Steam Ship Company have, for some time past, been considering tie advisability of effecting changes in the Onehunga-New Plymouth steamer service, rendered necessary by the opening of the Main Trunk Eailway, but have delayed action pending such time as they could form an opinion as to the proportion of passenger traffic diverted from the 6tuamer to tho railway, which could bo regarded as not due to the novelty of the now route. Both companies have, for some time, been urged to reduce Hie fares between Onehunga and New Plymouth, it being pointed out to them that the rates for this journey are a great deal higher tb.m have been ruling between Wellington and Lyttelton. They, however, hesitated to reduce, in view of the completion of the Main Trunk Railway, which would undoubtedly divert a largo portion of the Onchunga-New Plymouth traffic to the all-rail journey, but, in deference to the continued agitation, it has been decided to try tho effect of charging the same mloon rates as obtain between Wellington and Lyttelton, namely, 20s. single, and 35a. return, and also to reduce the steerage rates to 15b. single and 225. 6d. return. Onehunga-Welliugton and vice versa, saloon single. 405., return 755.; steerage single 305., return 525. 6d; These rates are to come into operation on April 1. As the Wairau is barbound at Mbtuclta, she misses her trip to-day, and is advertised to leave to-morrow. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that the Jane Douglas will sail to-day for Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika. Captain I. Fletcher has been appointed master of the auxiliary scow Echo, vice Captain Seelcr. It is expected that the Tyser steamer Whakarna, from New York, via ports, will arrive in Wellington on April 6, and four days later the Indralema, from London, via ports, is also due here,
