, London,; March 28. The Onont Company's new steamer Otranto (ono of tho flvo 12,000 ton steamers now building under tho mail contract with tho Commonwealth)has been launched at Belfast. Tho Bovril Australian Estates Company, Limited, which has been formed with the object of purchasing the properties of Mr. Sydney Kidman, "tho Australian Cattlo King," and other properties, will havo a capitalof £250,G00. Tho directors are- Lord Kmsey (an ex-Governor of Victoria), Sir Edward Wittenoom (a former Agent-General for Western Australia), and Sir. Kidman. Mr. C. H. Rasoti will assume the chairmanship of the board of directors upon returning to Australia in October from his present position as Agent-General of 'Western. Australia. AUSTRALIAN POULTRY EXPORTS. John Davidson, the poet and playwright, has beon missing from his homo at l'onzanco, Cornwall, for several days. [Born in Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1857, John Davidson was iu turn chemical analyst, school teacher, and clork till ho came to London in 1800 and attracted attention with special articles in tho "Speaker" and "Glasgow Herald." In poetry and plays ho has published copiously. Among his moro recent works are "Holiday ami Other Poems," 1D00; "The Triumph of Mammon," 1807j and "Mammon and his Message," 1908.] DEATH OF A NOTED CRIMINAL. London, March 28, Tho death is announced of William Roupoll, formorly member of Parliament for Lambeth, who in 1862 was sentenced to penal sorvitudo for lifo for self-confessed forgory. [Vim, Roupell, at that time a member of Parliament, confessed in 1862, while giving evidence in tho case of Roupell v. Waite, to having forged a will and committed other frauds. He was sentenced to imprisonment, and was reloased in September, 187G.] A DESTRUCTIVE STORM. Brisbane, March 29.
