ATHLETIC SPORTS.

The sports meeting to be held on the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon, under the auspices 'Of the Catholic Club' and Hibernian Society, promises to bo a great success. Included in the programme are two events for members of tho Victoria College Club, in order that the Selection Committee may be enabled to choose representatives for tho forthcoming Easter Inter-'varsity tournament. The committee has been very fortunate in securing W. Woodger as a competitor. All the Wellington champions who were competing at Dunedin will bs out before the public to-morrow afternoon. A special item in connection with the Irish jig competition will be an exhibition of Irish dancing in costume by Misses Imelda Fama and Mona Butler. Tho tug-of-war contest is exciting considerable interest in the circles directly concerned, and should be well worth seeing. There afe 29 entries for the mile run, and if nearly all of that number face the starter it should be a grand spectacle. Mr. J. Doyle will judge tho tug-of-war and Mr. D. M'Phee the dancing. Competitors in the tug-of-war are to clearly understand that on noaccount will spiked shoes or boots be allowed. Jupp's Brass Band has been engaged for the afternoon.
