HOCKEY.
A NEW RULE. The following new rule is contained in "Rules of tho Game of Ilockey," issued under the authority of the English Hotkey Association, Which has jitsfc come to Itatid for the present, year. It is provided, under tho heading "Penalty Corner," that "a player of the attacking team shall have a hit from any point on the goal lino he may choose, and at iho moment, of such hit all (he defending team (their sticks and feet) mllst he behind their own goal line, also all the attacking team must Ijb olitßida tho striking circle 111 the field of pln.V." Hitherto any breach of a rule by tho defending team inside their own striking circlo has bten penalised by either an ordinary bully or a penalty bully. In future there will bo 110 ordinary bullies insido tho striking circle, but in Ihoir placo will bo awarded penalty corners. That is, the attacking side will bo entitled to a free hit from anywhero 011 tho defenders' goal line. The penally for a breach is thus made much moro real than Under iho old rule. It is expected that the nntv regulation will bo approved by (ho local Hockey Association at its next meeting, and it Will bo observed throughout New Zealand next season,
