Wedding; On Thursday afternoon, at St. Luko's Church, Grey town, Miss Elsie Mildred Humphries, eldest daughter of Mr. Henry Humphries, was married to Mr. Alan Bidwill Balfour. Tho bride wore a frock of white Swiss embroidered muslin, with a beautifully embroidered veil, and orange blossoms, and slio carried a sheaf' of whit© Japaneso anemone and maidenhair ferns. She was given away by her brother,' Mr. William Humphries. There wore four bridesmaids; Miss Constance Ethel Keedwell, and Miss Zillah Humphries (sister 1 of the brido) were tho two principal ones, and they woro frocks of pale blue crystalline, with hats of crinoline straw trimmed with roses, and carried shower bouquets of anemones and lilies. Misses Ruby and Nellie Humphries (sisters of the bride) were dressed in blue, and carried pink (lowers. ' Mr* Athol Rhodes (cousin of tho bridegroom) was best man, and Mr. Leslie Balfour, brother of the bridegroom, acted as groomsman. Tho Rev. E. T. Wynn Bond (Martinborougli) officiated, assisted by the Rev.'A. T. B. Page, vicar of the parish. The church was nicely decorated by members of the choir, who also took part in tho ceremony. A largo number, of guests were at the' wedding ceremony, 1 and at the reception which was held afterwards in a largo marquee erected at the residence of the bride's parents. In the evening a social and danco was held in tho Foresters' Hall, when a great many accepted' the invitation and spent an enjoyable evening. Tho happy couple aro travelling north for their honeymoon. The bride's travelling costume was of cream serge, trimmed with white silk and French knots, and green hat trimmed with green wings and satin. A. Golden WeddingMr. and Mrs. Hiteman, who live near Feathcrston, celebrated their golden wedding last week, and a pleasant way was devised by many of their neighbours to do honour to tho occasion. They organised a surprise party, and succeeded in completely surprising their host and hostess, who thoroughly enjoyed the evening that followed. During the evening Mr. and Mrs. Hiteman were presented with a purso'of sovereigns as a mark of the goodwill and esteem of their friends. Mrs. Rutherford's Tea. ! s Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford and three daughters, who are all leaving to-day for a prolonged tour of Australia and England, have been spending. a day or two at the Royal Oak, and Mrs. Rutherford ga.ve a very enjoyable morning tea there yesterday morning, when many of their friends were present. There was sunshine, and music, and yollow flowers, and pretty frocks, and a general feeling of congratulatory envy of the travellers, who p.ro looking forward to such a delightful trip. Mrs. Rutherford is much better, in health than when she was last in Wellington, and expects to thoroughly erjoy her travels. During the morning iVissRutherford played, Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Aylwin sang several songs, and Mrs. Malcolm Ross recited; Among other guests present were Mrs. Findlay, Mrs. Macarthur, Mrs. fringham, and Mrs. Digges-Smith, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. and Miss Wylie, Mrs. Herbert, Mrs. Salmond, Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Mrs. Christie, Miss Bauchop, Miss Marchant, and Miss Henderson.
Miss Faith Hawdon, from Peel Forest, was in Wellington yesterday on her way to visit Mrs. J, Studholme, at Ruanui. I Miss Frances Moore, from Wanganui, is staying at Mrs Cruickshanks's, on the Torrace. Lady Fitzgerald, who has been staying with Mrs. Wallis at Bishopscourt, has gone to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. W. Macdonald, from Ger•aldine, left for England yesterday by the Athenic. 'A concert was given yesterday afternoon at the Ohiro Home by members of the Lady Plunket Centre of the Girls' Realm Guild. Among those who went out were Misses Toler-Curtis, Hurley, Morrah, and Drury, and Mrs. Anketell, who played the accompaniments. Upon the recommendation of the Libraries Committee, the City Council, last night, granted four weeks' leave of absence, to Miss Nunneley, to enable her to visit Australia, provided satisfactory arrangements could be made for the temporary filling of her position. > Mrs. W. P. Reid, of "Monte Christo," Oamaru, and her little daughter' are spending a few weeks with her parents, the Hon. Alfred and Mrs. Baldey, at "Ranui," Wellington Terrace: \ Mrs. and Miss Matthews, of Waiorongomai, have been visiting Wellington, and returned again yesterday afternoon. Mrs. R. J. Collins and her daughter, Miss Eveline Collins, who have been, on a' visit to Rotorua and Auckland, returned on Tuesday evening by way of Wanganui, where they made a short stay on their way - home. The Miramar Ladies' Golf Club has elected its olbcers for the season as follow:—Miss Alice Turner (captain), Miss Esme Ward (secretary) and Miss Elsio Gray and Miss beed on the committee. A great many applications for membership of the club have been received, and it is expected that the season will open on April 17. • ¥ rs ' bowman, of Shannon, and her >;ister-in-law, Mrs. Murray, of Blenheim, are leavnig ior Auckland and Rotorua, where they will spend a tow weeks. l! } Hu pelican Church,' Tokomaru, last week, the Rex. Mr. Worsley, of Levin, officiated at the marriage of Mr. J. R. Kelly Zt w" G ' I" The bridesmaids were Missos B. Kelly and L. Rowlands, and the groomsman was Mr. F. Manning, of I etone. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly left for Wellington,, where tho honeymoon will bo spent.
