Mr. J. Coyle, oountry clerk of. Pohangina, is in town for a few days. Mr. Laurence Birks, electrical of Rotorua, is spending a few days in Wellington. ;

Dr. Buck, tho now member for tho Northorn Maori district, was champion amateur ■long jumper of Otago University in 1902-Uo. Mr. D. H. Guthrie, member for Oroua, was in town yesterday. Ho will return to Feilding this morning. Messrs. C. J. Salter (Wellington), E., J. Harvey (Blenheim), and E. W. Hunt (Wcllington) aro gazetted as public auditors under tho Friendly Societies' Act.

Upon tho motion of Mr. A. R. Atkinson yesterday, Mr, Justice Cooper admitted Mr. Frederick Neve, late of Westport, as a barrister and a solicitor of tho Supremo Court.

Tho Rev. J. R. Burgin (Anglican), tho Rov. W. J. Sauuderson (Roman Catholic), and tho Revs. T. G.'Butler and AV. S. l;ornw (Congregational) are gazetted officiating ministers under tho Marriage Act.

Mr. W. P. James, S.M. at Mastorton, will lcavo this morning on a two months' holiday to Australia. Our Masterton correspondent states that, during his absence, his magisterial duties will bo discharged by Mr. C. C. Graham.

Mr. A. G. Marshall, of tho WestportStockton Coal Company, has been appointed inspector of 'mines a l / Wcstiwrt, in succession to Mr. Tennant, who retires at tho agolimit. Mr. Marshall has been for some years with tho Westport-Stookton Company, and was previously with tho AYostport Coal Company.

Leave of absonco has been granted by tho Wellington Education Board to tho following teachers: —Mr. Pilkington, Porirua (six months on full pay); Miss Sullivan, rriitu (six months from April 1); Mr. laniblyn, Training College (extended leavo one month from April 1); Miss Hogg, Masterton (thieo weeks from March -l); Miss M'heown, loltomaru (threo weeks from March 3).

Mr. Andrew Frcebairn, who has been manager for .T. 0. Brown, in Wellington, for tlireo years, (luring which time ho has also become a popular member of the Wellington Bowling Club, has been farcwelled bv the members of tho Connnorcial travellers Club and other friends. He was presented with a solid silver afternoon tea service, and Mrs. Freobnirn received a greenstone tiki. Mr. and airs. Frccbairn are about to return to Sydney. At a mooting of No. 3 Company (E.L. Section) Garrison Artillery., held at tho Garrison Hull oil Wednesday evening, Mr. P. J. Ellis, of the Wellington Harbour Board's accountant staff, was elected a subaltern in the company. Mr. 15Uis is well-known in athletic circles, and has been Sergcant-Major of tho company since it was formed. No. 3 Company had'a very fine record for tho volunteer year, and has become very efficient at its various duties, which consist of electric lighting, engine-driving, and signalling. At yesterday's meeting of t-ho Ha'rlioui Board," Mr. T. M, Wilford, M.l\, returned thanks to tho members for his re-election a< chairman, which, ho said, ho greatly appreciated. Thero had been many difficulties during tho year, but_ the members had always handled them with a spirit of conciliivlion, and whenever a compromise had to bo made it was a mutual concession, and not a one-sided one. Tho board had had many troubles to surmount, but tho outside'wojld had boon given no trouble at all, which, im thought, spoke well for tho harmony w&h which tho board worked.
