Yesterday afternoon a meeting of the executive of tho Wellington branch of tho Victoria League was held at Lady Ward's residence, when, besides Lady Ward, thero were present, Mrs. Tuokey, Mrs. Grace, Mrs. J. P. Luke, Mrs. Laruach, Mrs. Corrigan, Mrs. A. Harris, Miss Coates, Miss Harding, and Mrs. Rankino Brown (secretary). , A large amount of correspondence was received from Miss Talbot, the secretary in London, who sent, as a present to the league, a copy of Queen Alexandra's Gift Book. A present that came from tho Princess of. Wales and her children is a fairy book called "The King's Baby." This will bo lent to different schools, and it is to be supposed that the littlo New Zealand children will be much interested in having this book from the Princess of Wales's own nursery party. There is to be a meeting of tho Victoria League Council in London in May, and the Wellington League has appointed Mrs. Chapplo as their delegate, whilo they hope that Miss Holmes, who will be in London at that time, may be persuaded to speak on behalf of the New Zealand League at the general meeting which is to follow.
A packet of letters was received from the children of a school near Bristol, and these will be sent to a school at Paraparaumu. Miss Talbot is anxious to hare some curios from all the countries represented in the, league to show in English schools, and the Wellington ladies aro already collecting various curiosities and objects illustrating tho industries 'of the Dominion. Tho central executive Ms .considering proposals to make arrangements by which members of tho league visiting other parts of the Empire will secure a personal welcome. The idea is to have welcoming clubs—places where new arrivals could meet local members of the league. It was decided to send a" letter congratulating Sir Joseph Ward on his prompt offer of a Dreadnought to England— an action which this Imperialist League felt to be most useful.
