HIGHLAND RIFLES.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Highland Biflo Volunteers was held at the Garrison Hall last evening, Captain M'Diarmid, officer commanding the company, presiding. There was an excellent muster of members. The retiring committee, in its report, congratulated the- carps of having maintained its position as one of tho leading companies in the battalion. The year was commenced with a muster-roll of 58, which was increased and maintained to the full strength of (S3 throughout tho year, capitation being earned on that number. The now field service uniforms—khaki tunics, helmets, putties, and tartan trews—were worn for the hrst time at the Easter camp at Johnsonvillo, the company being represented at the manoeuvres to the number of between 40 and 50. At theso operations, the Highlanders camo in for their fair share of fighting, and worthily upheld the traditions of their corps. Members were looking, forward eagerly to the Easter operations at Oriugi this year. The company was represented in the tentpitching and route-marching competitions at the military tournament held at Palmerston JNortn. on November 9, and acquitted themselves with credit. The marching team was placed third, and was only a point and a half behind the second team. Tho annual shooting match with the Wanganui Highlanders was held on New Year's Day, 1909, the Wellington men- being victorious. The team was very hospitably entertained by the Wanganui men. Credit was given the Management Committeo of the annual ball, held in the Town Hall in June last. About 220 couples and 450 spectators were present, and tho function was entirely successful.
